About Us

Who we are, what makes us tick and why we’re the team
to help you supercharge your impact.

 NOT YOUR AVERAGE OPTIMISATION WIZARDS...

Purpose-driven, People-centred,
Efficiency-obsessed

Ultimately, Optimi was born out of a simple quest for optimisation. Because the truth is that most of us are too buried in menial tasks to focus on the important things - whether that be maximising the reach of your social-enterprise or spending time with your loved ones.

At Optimi, we’re not just technical experts, we’re experienced business analysts who can help you figure out which tools and automations will add the most value to your organisation.

We use minimal developer code so our clients don’t get locked in to overly-complex systems. And because our focus is on working with the people and their processes in your organisation, we use a lot more everyday language than your typical developer.

It’s been an absolute joy to help our clients maximise their time, money, empower their people and make a positive difference in the world.

Optimi has been an invaluable, values-aligned partner for The Gift Trust over the past four years. Their expertise in scaling systems and technical capabilities have been instrumental in our growth and success and has helped increase philanthropic giving in New Zealand. Even during times when our budgets were tight, Optimi was there to provide unwavering support and guidance. Their coaching and training have empowered us to become more self-sufficient, while their innovative approach to technology has allowed us to offer an online service for our donors that would have been near impossible with our budget and a traditional IT approach. We are grateful for their partnership and look forward to continuing our work together in the future.”

Our Team

  • Malcolm

    DIRECTOR
    | NEW ZEALAND

Optimi’s founder, Malcolm is a corporate refugee fostering more empowering workspaces that use technology to make the most of human potential. Distilling 20 years of operations experience (some of it in an unfulfilling bank job) into a methodology customized for teams’ and nonprofits’ unique needs, he has advised over 60 organizations on their journey to using technology more effectively.

  • Callum

    DEVELOPER | NSW

Before joining Optimi, Callum was the Operations Manager for one of Australia’s biggest music festivals. Callum also ran a small business on the side, building web apps to manage staff, rostering, and training. Callum thrives on sorting out chaotic ideas and information into something more ordered and structured. For him, the icing on the cake is helping purpose-led organisations become more efficient so they can make more of a difference.

  • John

PEOPLE & OPS | NEW ZEALAND

A community technologist specialized in communications and decision making with a background in labor organizing, collaboration software, and organizational capacity growth, John’s social expertise owes much to the Kheprw Institute and years based in Aotearoa New Zealand learning from the local bicultural platform and treaty partnership. A member of the Enspiral community, he contributed to their book Better Work Together.

  • Stephen

    DEVELOPER | NSW

Stephen has come from a background as a business analyst in a large supply chain organisation, where he specialised in mass data maintenance, coming up with rapid solutions, and turning data into stories and insights through the use of business intelligence software.

Stephen joined Optimi with the intent on helping smaller organisations who may not have a dedicated solutions team to build better systems and apps.

  • Karen

    BUSINESS SUPPORT | PHILIPPINES

After a long time working in the corporate world and hospitality industry Karen was piqued with the potential opportunities freelancing offers. She now handles a network of highly skilled virtual professionals serving clients across the globe and also provides system admin support for Optimi. She is driven by her passion to help entrepreneurs to solve problems, push boundaries and elevate lives through high quality, impactful services.

  • Ian

    DEVELOPER | CALIFORNIA

Ian is passionate about innovation and impact. After completing a fellowship in Engineering, Ian joined Optimi in support of their mission to help purpose-driven organisations. He thinks technology when used responsibly can be a force for good. In his spare time, Ian loves composing music, listening to comedy, and speaking gibberish with his niece.

  • Nathalie

    DEVELOPER | URUGUAY

Nathalie is an educator, writer and developer. She has been working in IT since 2015 as a backend developer and product owner. One of her greatest perks as a developer is that she sees technology as a means to an end, so she'll focus in asking the right questions and finding the simplest solution before getting to the keyboard. She is passionate about popular education and has been giving workshops and classes for all kinds of people - her favourite students being elderly women. In her free time she likes to write stories, preferably with a cat on her lap.
